Handle
The recycling company for the beauty industry.
An innovative start up with a circular approach and a strong belief that used beauty packaging isn't waste, but a raw material which can be repurposed. We provide a stylish brand and packaging that embody the product’s story.

HANDLE understands the responsibility of companies to create innovative waste-disposal solutions. With their circular model, they collect beauty packaging from an array of sources – salons, retailers, even customers – then repurpose the raw materials to create a premium range of beauty accessories. All the handles of the robust mirrors, brushes and razor handles are made entirely from the material they recycled. Even better, any materials gone unused are sold back to the manufacturers to be used again.

In the same spirit, the brand’s typography features an amalgamation of serif and sans serif typefaces. As the leading typefaces, Colophon Foundry’s personality-driven (and approachable) Mabry and the classic serif Plantin express the dual nature of the brand. Delicate yet distinctive.
We worked closely with the team from the early stages, ensuring that we translated their unique concept into an authentic brand, which we then rolled out across packaging (using 100% recycled paper stocks), print and digital. Our approach to the project involved getting close to the recomposed nature of the product and examining the details that make the process so fascinating. The textures, and patterns within the recycled materials, compressed, largely informed the direction.
We magnified the forms into linear shapes and crafted a collection of organic and fluid motifs. Primary recycled black and grey provided the neutral base of the palette. Meanwhile flecks of colour from the more jewel-toned materials provided vibrant hues.
